Extreme H Shortlisted for Hydrogen UK’s ‘Hydrogen for Transport’ Award

London, UK, 14 January 2026: Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-powered motor racing series, is proud to announce its nomination for the prestigious Hydrogen for Transport Award at the 2026 Hydrogen UK Awards.

The ‘Hydrogen for Transport’ Award celebrates organisations that have made significant commercial or technical contributions to the transportation sector. The nomination recognises Extreme H’s role in advancing the development of hydrogen applications for mobility, following the successful inaugural FIA Extreme H World Cup held in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia, in October 2025.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme H, said: "Being recognised by Hydrogen UK is a testament to the hard work of our teams and partners who have turned a visionary concept into a racing reality. Extreme H is more than a sport, it is an innovation platform designed to prove that hydrogen can play a key part of real-world solutions for the global energy transition.”

Extreme H’s inclusion on the shortlist acknowledges the groundbreaking achievements of the Pioneer 25 race car, built by Spark Racing Tehnology, which utilises a hydrogen fuel-cell system from Symbio to drive high-performance electric motors.

The award submission recaps the achievements of the rigorous programme of vehicle performance and safety testing of the Pioneer 25 and inaugural 3-day race event in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, with both serving to transform motorsports into a high-speed R&D lab to test fuel-cell technology. The vehicle’s official FIA homologation was a further achievement, confirming it meets the highest standards for both safety and performance.

By racing the Pioneer 25 and bringing together local suppliers to develop fully mobile, off-grid refuelling infrastructure, Extreme H is developing a scalable model for a range of applications. With the race’s global platform reaching millions of viewers, its use in high-profile settings validates hydrogen as a safe and high-performance solution, shifting public perception by demonstrating that hydrogen can deliver world-class performance in some of the most challenging environments.

As a member of the UK's leading hydrogen industry association, Extreme H collaborates with a broad ecosystem of producers, technology developers, and policymakers to catalyse the scale-up of hydrogen infrastructure, and the UK’s transition towards a net-zero future.

The winners will be announced at the Hydrogen UK Annual Conference and Awards on 10 March 2026, at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham.
